2 Regulators and registered offices
Kleinwort Benson is the brand name of Kleinwort Benson Channel Islands Holdings Limited (and its subsidiaries) in the Channel Islands.
In Guernsey, Kleinwort Benson conduct business from their registered offices at Dorey Court, Admiral Park, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 2HT and are regulated by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and licensed to provide banking, safe custody, investment business, trust and company administration services, fund administration and accounting services and general insurance business. Subsidiaries include Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Limited, whose registered number is 52103, Kleinwort Benson (Guernsey) Limited, whose registered number is 670, Kleinwort Benson (Guernsey) Trustees Limited, whose registered number is 3333, Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Fund Services Limited, whose registered number is 6946, and Kleinwort Benson International Insurance PCC Limited, whose registered number is 41655.
In Jersey, Kleinwort Benson is the registered trading name of Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Investment Management Limited, Kleinwort Benson (Jersey) Trustees (2011) Limited, Kleinwort Benson (Jersey) Trustees Limited, Kleinwort Benson Secretarial Services Limited, Kleinwort Benson (Jersey) Corporate Services Limited, Kleinwort Benson Nominees Limited, Chrisalis Trustees Limited and Citadel Trust Limited. Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Investment Management Limited is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission in the conduct of fund services business, investment business and general insurance mediation business; by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission in the conduct of investment business and by the South African Financial Services Board as a financial services provider. Kleinwort Benson (Jersey) Trustees Limited is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission to carry out trust and company business and general insurance mediation business, and by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission to carry out trust and company business. In the Isle of Man, Kleinwort Benson is the registered trading name of a group of companies that includes Kleinwort Benson Bank (Isle of Man) Limited and Kleinwort Benson Trustees (Isle of Man) Limited which are licensed by the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission.
In South Africa, Kleinwort Benson Fund Services (SA) (Pty) Limited is regulated by the South African Financial Services Board as a licensed Financial Service Provider and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Fund Services Limited which is registered in Guernsey and regulated by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission under The Protection of Investors (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 1987 as amended and The Regulation of Fiduciaries, Administration Businesses and Company Directors, etc. (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2000.
All are subsidiaries of Kleinwort Benson Channel Islands Holdings Limited, incorporated in Guernsey, the ultimate parent of which is RHJ International S. A. which is listed on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
3 Compensation Arrangements
Compensation arrangements are not offered for all products in all jurisdictions.
- In the event that Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Investment Management Limited or Kleinwort Benson (Jersey) Trustees Limited (or any of its subsidiaries) are unable to meet its respective liabilities there are currently no established investor protection or compensation schemes available in Jersey for these businesses.
- Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Limited is a participant in the Guernsey Banking Deposit Compensation Scheme. The Scheme offers protection for ‘qualifying deposits’ up to £50,000, subject to certain limitations. The maximum total amount of compensation is capped at £100,000,000 in any five year period. Kleinwort Benson Bank (Isle of Man) Limited is a participant in the Isle of Man Depositors’ Compensation Scheme as set out in the Compensation of Depositors Regulations 2010.
- Deposits made with Kleinwort Benson Bank (Isle of Man) Limited are covered by the Isle of Man Depositors’ Compensation Scheme (“DCS”) as set out in the Depositors’ Compensation Scheme Regulations 2010. The DCS partially compensates you if you have deposited money in Close Bank Isle of Man and it fails. The DCS compensates people who have money in current and deposit accounts with banks and building societies in the Isle of Man with up to £50,000 of net deposits* per individual depositor or £20,000 for most other categories of depositor. Cover is calculated per depositor, per deposit taker, if this bank fails. This means that a maximum of £50,000 compensation is payable per individual and a maximum of £20,000 for companies, trusts etc. Note that maximum amounts paid under the DCS will be reduced by amounts paid by IoM Treasury under Early Payment Schemes. (* Net deposits: Loans may be netted off against any deposits you have with the same deposit taker). If two or more individuals share a joint account, they would each be entitled to up to £50,000 in compensation. However, if either individual has any other accounts with the same licence holder, these balances would also need to be taken into consideration, as compensation is limited to £50,000 per individual.

6 Nature of investments
The price and value of investments and the income from them may rise or fall and may be affected by changes in rates of exchange and market conditions. 7 Bases of taxation
The tax treatment for individuals is dependant on their particular circumstances and may be subject to change in the future. Whilst Kleinwort Benson is a provider of international wealth management solutions, these solutions attract different tax treatments in different countries. It must be noted that offshore companies of Kleinwort Benson do not give tax or legal advice and applicants will be required to confirm that they have received their own appropriate advice (tax, legal or financial) before proceeding. Kleinwort Benson relies on the applicant’s Advisor to guide them appropriately.
8 Banking
Kleinwort Benson (Channel Islands) Limited and Kleinwort Benson Bank (Isle of Man) Limited are subsidiaries of Kleinwort Benson Channel Islands Holdings Limited, incorporated in Guernsey, the ultimate parent of which is RHJ International S. A. which is listed on the Brussels Stock Exchange. Both companies place all client deposits with a spread of approved counterparties and other parts of the Kleinwort Benson Group. As such their financial standing is linked to that of the Kleinwort Benson Group. Depositors should form their own view of the financial standing of each bank and the group based upon publicly available information.
